LINUX KERNEL
After Linus released an early Linux 2.6.38-rc2 kernel due to the 2011 Linux.Conf.Au, Linus has released the Linux 2.6.38-rc3 kernel while developers are returning from this Australian conference.

Though this Linux 2.6.38-rc3 release isn't particularly exciting. As Linus says in the release announcement, "Nothing hugely special in here, and I'm happy to say that most of the pull requests have been nice clear bug-fixes and fixing regressions. Thanks to most of you for that."

This is the Linux kernel cycle that brings a lot of open-source graphics driver improvements, such as initial ATI HD 6000 series support and NVIDIA Fermi acceleration in the Nouveau driver.

Linux concludes this release candidate with, "So go out and test, we seem to be doing pretty well this release cycle."
