New Releases Of GTK+, Mutter, GNOME Shell
In preparation for the latest GNOME 3.0 development snapshot due to arrive on Wednesday (tagged as GNOME 2.31.5), a wealth of GNOME packages are being checked-in for this unstable milestone. Among the packages to have been checked-in for this milestone are new releases of GTK+ 3.0, GNOME Shell, and Mutter.
With there just being about two months left prior to the official release of GNOME 3.0, these most recent package updates aren't as prominent as some of the earlier development releases, but still worth noting nevertheless. With the GTK+ 2.90.5 release, GTK+ 3.0 is now dependent upon Cairo 1.90.10 or newer, aliasing hacks were dropped, and a good number of bugs were fixed. GTK+ 2.90.5 also carries a few API changes and some translation updates.
With the GNOME Shell 2.31.5 release, this GNOME 3.0 desktop shell is dependent upon GTK+ 3.0. GNOME Shell will no longer work with the GTK+ 2.x library. Other changes since the previous GNOME Shell release include various bug and build fixes. Lastly, Mutter 2.31.5 has also picked up support for building against GTK+ 3.0.
Those wishing to monitor the stream of GNOME development packages being checked-in for this week's GNOME 3.0 snapshot can find the announcements on the gnome-announce-list.
