Linux 2.6.31-rc6 Kernel Released
It has been almost two weeks since the release of the Linux 2.6.31-rc5 kernel but this afternoon there is a new kernel available. Linus has made the release of Linux 2.6.31-rc6, which brings a number of small fixes throughout the Linux kernel. The changes are scattered throughout the different areas, including drivers, architectures, file-systems, etc.
When it comes to one of our favorite areas, the graphics DRM, there are a number of updates to the Intel support. This includes a number of additions to the IGDNG support, their new, unreleased IGP. The Intel developers continue working on support for this next-generation graphics chipset in their user-space area with features like a new shader compiler, but now there is some kernel fun. The Linux 2.6.31-rc6 kernel brings DisplayPort capabilities for the IGDNG, HDMI detection, VGA detection fixes, and more. When it comes to the ATI Radeon support, the Linux 2.6.31-rc6 kernel brings the DRM support for the newly released AMD 785G IGP.
The Linux 2.6.31-rc6 kernel release announcement can be read on the mailing list. Linus is expecting the Linux 2.6.31 kernel will be finalized following an -rc8 release, which puts the final release in early September.
