A day after the release of GNOME 2.19.6 is the availability of KDE 4.0 Beta 1. The library interface for KDE 4.0 is now under a full freeze. Some of the specific improvements in this first KDE 4.0 beta include Marble (similar to Google Earth), Dolphin integration, Okular, and KDE-PIM to just name a few. KDE 4.0 might also support the Mac OS X Dashboard Widgets. Last but not least, coinciding with the release of KDE 4.0 Beta 1 is KOffice 2.0 Alpha 2. More information is available in this KDE press release.
