Broadwell Support Marching Along For Coreboot
For months now there's been Coreboot developers working on Intel Broadwell support (primarily from Google and focused on future Chromebook support). With the start of the new year and hopefully seeing more Broadwell hardware on the market soon, that support is coming along in Coreboot.
Committed to Coreboot on New Year's Eve was updated Broadwell support done by Sage Engineering. "Updated Intel Broadwell for differences in the source based on the chromium tree. It is missing most of the recent updates on coreboot.org."
Broadwell is the tick update to Haswell that so far has just been powering a handful of Core M laptops on the market, but more Broadwell designs are expected this year. Broadwell adds new instruction set extensions, VP8 hardware decode support, OpenCL 2.0 support, and various other features over Haswell. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before seeing some interesting Broadwell Core M Chromebooks and other interesting new products.
