Intel P-State Driver Gets Broadwell Support In Linux 3.16
Intel Broadwell processors will be supported by the P-State driver with the upcoming Linux 3.16 kernel release.
Rafael Wysocki sent out the initial ACPI/PM commit queue of the work he plans to send via pull request into the Linux 3.16 kernel when its merge window opens in June.
There's a lot of ACPI and power management changes lined up for this next Linux kernel cycle. Worth pointing out for Phoronix readers is that Intel's P-State driver now has Broadwell CPU ID support for controlling the CPU frequency scaling in place of ACPI CPUfreq. Here's some recent CPUfreq vs. P-State benchmarks for those interested.
The ACPI/PM pull also has changes for always using the deepest C-state in the "freeze" sleep state, updated documentation, enabling the ARM big.LITTLE cpufreq driver on ARM64, and many bug-fixes.
The full list of currently queued ACPI and power management patches for Linux 3.16 can be found via the kernel mailing list while some more patches might still be pulled before the release of Linux 3.15.
