Linux 3.16-rc5 Kernel Released
Linus Torvalds continued in his Sunday tradition of releasing a new test build of the upcoming Linux kernel release.
We're now up to Linux 3.16-rc5 in ending out the weekend with the official Linux 3.16 kernel release being probably two to three weeks based upon historical trends. For 3.16-rc5, all is usual at this point in the development stage as said by Linus Torvalds in his brief release announcement.
If you're not already familiar with the Linux 3.16 changes and improvements, there's many exciting new features! We've already been benchmarking Linux 3.16 much to great success.

Things are looking normal, and as usual, I _wish_ there was a bit less churn going on since it's getting fairly late in the rc cycle, but honestly, it's not like there is anything that really raises any eyebrows here.
The bulk of this is drivers - with acpi and gpu sticking out, if only by a hair. It's pretty mixed, really (hid, hwmon, iio, thermal, clk drivers, libata, pinctrl, etc). There's the usual architecture updates (mostly arm, some powerpc), there's some docbook fixes, and there's a couple of filesystem fixes (f2fs, kernfs and ext4). With a smattering of small core fixes (mainly cgroup) too.
Go forth and test,
Linus
