QXL SPICE X.Org Driver Supports New Features
Red Hat's Alon Levy announced on Sunday the xf86-video-qxl 0.1.1 driver release, which is the X.org DDX driver for use with Red Hat's SPICE protocol with Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and SPICE KVM/QEMU. This new X.Org display driver release supports several new features.
Supported by this long-awaited driver update is KMS support so this X.Org driver can be used in conjunction with the new QXL DRM driver, DFPS guest driver support, Xspice audio and agent support, drops GPL code, addresses some warnings, and kills a few bugs.
The Linux 3.10 kernel brought the QXL KMS/DRM driver and has improved since while this xf86-video-qxl 0.1.1 driver release finally makes the X.Org driver compatible with using the KMS driver rather than just the old user-space mode-setting code-paths in the driver. The GPL code that was removed from this driver is for the EDID support and the other changes in this driver are also nice. In total there's more than 80 changes in the xf86-video-qxl 0.1.1.
More details on the updated QXL X.Org driver release can be found on the Xorg mailing list.
