WebKitGTK+ Update Packs Many Features
The next update to the port of WebKit rendering engine to GTK+ features several new features.
As shared by Mario Sanchez Prada on his blog, the forthcoming WebKitGTK+ 1.10 update is sure to excite many Phoronix readers that will be moving to GNOME 3.6 upon its release later this month.
Among the features coming from the official WebKitGTK+ 1.10 release is a beta version of the WebKit2GTK+ API, support for accelerated compositing, WebGL support is now enabled by default, support for HTML5 full-screen, support for WebAudio, the multimedia layer has been ported to GStreamer 0.11, and there's support for low-level interpreter in JavaScriptCore.
Access to the WebKit2GTK+ API itself is exciting, since it opens up amazing new opportunities for those using this GNOME package, but overall this is quite a notable release with improvements across the board from WebGL to GStreamer for other GNOME components to be based upon.
WebKitGTK+ 2.0 meanwhile is expected to be released in 2013 in conjunction with GNOME 3.8.
