Red Eclipse 1.2 Racks Up Many Changes
Red Eclipse, a total conversion mod of the "Cube 2" engine, is now at version 1.2 after racking up many changes to this open-source game.
Among the highlights to Red Eclipse 1.2 are gameplay enhancements, a revamp of the heads-up-display (HUD), much-improved AI, new in-game music, several new maps, new modding abilities, and many bug-fixes. Some of the gameplay changes include impulse launching, impulse sliding, special melee actions, and a new buff system.
The open-source Red Eclipse first-person shooter is built on top of the Cube 2 engine. Red Eclipse reached version 1.0 last March while retaining some of the unique Cube features like the built-in map editing. Cube is a classic open-source engine, but sadly there hasn't been an official update to Cube 2: Sauerbraten since the middle of 2010.
Red Eclipse 1.2 is available for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows platforms under the zlib license.
