Intel Broadwell & Newer Ready For OpenGL ES 3.1 In Mesa
Intel's Jordan Justen has sent out the Mesa patches that would enable OpenGL ES 3.1 support by default for "Gen 8" graphics hardware and newer.
Since Intel's recent landing of compute shader support for their open-source graphics driver, they have been nearly done with OpenGL ES 3.1 enablement. The patches sent out today would allow their i965 DRI driver to support OpenGL ES 3.1 contexts without needing to override any environment variables.
This Intel OpenGL ES 3.1 support is only to be exposed initially for "Gen 8" hardware and newer, a.k.a. Broadwell, and newer hardware like Skylake and Broxton. Haswell and Ivy Bridge don't yet support OpenGL ES 3.1 as there isn't ARB_stencil_texturing support.
These patches pending for turning on GLES 3.1 support officially in the Intel driver can be found for now via the Mesa-dev list.
