What're you talking about? It was the Commodore 64 that dominated gaming and was then succeeded by the Commodore Amiga which ended up getting killed off because the Commodore CEO got kicked out and took over Atari after declaring vengeance on his former company and drove the entire proprietary computer market other than apple out of existence. Apple only surviving because they decided against trying to actually compete in the war that followed.

there is definitely some misunderstanding in this thread. when the graphics driver gets released for one, it'll automatically support both. The requirements for driver support on both mir and wayland are exactly the same.

Hate to say it, but knowing the build quality of Nvidia's proprietary drivers releases, they probably won't release them untill mir/wayland is solid released and out in the wild first, then they can build on the stability from there.

They might release them as experimental / beta like they did for ARM and OpenGL 4.4.

The commodore 64 was my first computer lol

Nothing like waiting up to 30 min for a game to load from a cassette tape to discover something went wrong, its frozen, and you need to start again.

No one can know the future, but in my opinion Canonical is doing a good job. Talking with a friend who works for Nvidia drivers for Linux, it seems that Mir is not problem and its opinion mir / wayland will be supported without problems, are already at work ...
