          4 - ZTE - 12.5 million
5 - either Sony or Lenovo - (Sony likely sold about 10.5 million)
6 - ether Lenovo or Sony - Lenovo sold 9.8 million
          7 - LG - 8.6 million
          8 - HTC - 7.0 million

Nokia sold 4.4 million lumia phone (their premium phone 920 was released late in the quarter and in limited market and had supply restraint)
they sold 2.2 million symbian phone
            and 9.3 million asha phone
If you count the non smartphone they totally sold around 80 million phones in q4.

Much less than when they was as biggest. But if you look at the market, most of the phone maker besides Apple and Samsung did negative result q4. Nokia made $580 million in operating profit how much came from the device unit I'm unsure about. I suppose Nokia-Siemens was the most profitable part of the company. But I got the impression both the device and services unit and Nokia-Siemens got a better q4 than earlier q in 2012.

Availability of source is a good indication that program vendor respects fair play. Sure, it's dumb to release sources if you backdoored and trojanized something: this increases chance to get caught and allows to uncloak this treason faster.
I find nokia being similiar to BSD except BSD knows and has experienced the consequences but still continue to open their anuses of Apple and Microsoft.

              So BSD is more shit

Linux works on phones so the Linux foundation is doing much better that everyone else.

It's very sad that Nokia's fate is not good. They have dominated the mobile industry for quite some time and if only they used Android instead of Microsoft, things would have been a lot different.

                      wrong.

If Nokia went Android they would have become just another Android handset maker. And that market is already packed enough with the likes of major giants such as Samsung, LG, Motorola and HTC (add in Huawei and ZTE for the low-end segment). There's just no place for Nokia there anymore. Sure they can make some sales with Android, but that's about it.

With Windows Phone Nokia has relegated itself to a niche market, which of course is a huge drop from their previous 'World no.1' status. But even though Windows Phone uptake is slow (WP has approx 2 -3 % of the smartphone pie at best), this is a segment which Nokia almost totally owns for itself. The only alternatives are the HTC 8X, HTC 8S, and Samsung Ativ, which all barely register among consumers where WP is concerned because as far as they are concerned, Windows Phone = Lumia. Anyone who want to get a Windows Phone (like the one I'm using now) is almost guranteed to get a Lumia over the alternatives just because it's the poster maker for the operating system.

Sp no, Nokia is not dying one bit. As long as Microsoft continues to develop Windows Phone, Nokia will always be the go-to maker for WP handsets and they will continue to do well in that segment. But their days as the most popular phone maker in the world are over.
