For a 3D Desktop? Which are you talking about AIGLX, Compiz, Beryl, Project Looking Glass?

      Hi all...

I've been trying to enable my Desktop effects for the past few days, but all attempts were in vain...

      Firstly, I'm using GNOME.
      I'm using Fedora Core 6 (2.6.19-1.2895.fc6).
According to the specs of my laptop, it says my laptop is equipped with ATI Radeon Xpress 200M.
I am not sure how I should install the ATI drivers ('coz when I tried running ./fedora-helper-fc6 - and when I tried clicking on ATI drivers to be installed, it says that my ATI driver has already been installed).

I'm quite a newbie to fedora, hope you guys can help me out.

      Thank you.

If the driver is already installed, then using the driver may be as easy as changing a line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (change where it says "vesa" to "fglrx"). If this doesn't work, then post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Just to let you know that messing with this file can make your system unable to boot up to the desktop... make sure you are able to function at the command-line if you change options here before knowing what they will do.

          Hi...

I do not have "vesa" anywhere in my xorg.conf file...

          This is my xorg.conf:

          # Xorg configuration created by pyxf86config

          Section "ServerLayout"
          Identifier "Default Layout"
          Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]" 0 0
          InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
          InputDevice "Synaptics" "CorePointer"
          EndSection

          Section "Files"
          ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
          EndSection

          Section "Module"
          EndSection

          Section "InputDevice"
          Identifier "Keyboard0"
          Driver "kbd"
          Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
          Option "XkbLayout" "us"
          EndSection

          Section "InputDevice"
          Identifier "Synaptics"
          Driver "synaptics"
          Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
          Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
          Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
          EndSection

          Section "Monitor"
          Identifier "aticonfig-Monitor[0]"
          Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
          Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
          Option "DPMS" "true"
          EndSection

          Section "Device"
          Identifier "Videocard0"
          Driver "radeon"
          EndSection

          Section "Device"
          Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]"
          Driver "fglrx"
          EndSection

          Section "Screen"
          Identifier "Screen0"
          Device "Videocard0"
          DefaultDepth 24
          SubSection "Display"
          Viewport 0 0
          Depth 24
          EndSubSection
          EndSection

          Section "Screen"
          Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]"
          Device "aticonfig-Device[0]"
          Monitor "aticonfig-Monitor[0]"
          DefaultDepth 24
          SubSection "Display"
          Viewport 0 0
          Depth 24
          EndSubSection
          EndSection

          Thanks for your reply.

The fglrx drivers do not support the Fedora desktop effects.

I've heard of XGL before, but I'm not too sure how to do it... Are there any available links that could probably tell me how to install it? Thanks once again...
