When a game engine+logic is open sourced like this is it common that the game content is required to play it, and it has not been seen as a big issue before either. Most ID titles even had buying the Windows version and downloading the Linux binery as the official install methode on Linux.
It's not "FREE GAME!!!", it's a way to keep an existing game working/improving.

Also, for the people hoping for a Linux port of KOTOR, hopefully it wouldn't be too hard... There's already a MacOS port on Steam, which means that there's an OpenGL version of the game that already exists (or maybe it's cider-based...?).
Both KOTOR games are using OpenGL already anyway, even on Windows.

This code drop is pretty awesome. Love those games

Well, actually, it depends on your definition of free

You do not need to recreate the assets to play a game with a source port. You just need to buy the assets and then run them from whichever source port your prefer. This is not illegal as it does not involve distributing the copyrighted assets.

But both games made with Odyssey Engine which is belongs to BioWare and EA.
EA never ever release any of game source code, even very old one, so there is no hope.

You're so wrong. EA is a strong supporter of open sourcing legacy game engines.

I just wish they'd release the source code to the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series. That would be awesome if someone did a massive engine update using the code from XW: Alliance. Dark Forces is already being ported to the JK:JA engine and fans could easily do a port of the first Jedi Knight game using fan-made textures and levels.

Yeah, sure, EA probably as good open source supporter as Adobe! They released photoshop source code just few months ago.
Now we can finally use Photoshop on Linux!
