Most GNU code is crappy and they have the worst possible coding standard ever. We should dump glibc and gcc for an alternative libc and llvm, and replace all the other bloated GNU tools.

As expected news about an obvious BSD troll gathered a record amount of obvious trolls ITT. And as expected they're using BSD and LLVM as troll baits.

          By definition, an operating system:

          -Allocates memory to programs
          -Handles scheduling
          -IPC
-Handles communication between hardware and software

Which is essentially what the kernel does. In fact, the kernel is often called the operating system proper. Therefore, the name Linux is more accurate then GNU/Linux when talking about the name of the operating system used when using the software package GNU+Linux.

I’m seeing a lot of people commenting negatively on this debate thinking that such petty issues only exists in the GNU, Linux and FSF community. Wrong. Look at FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD. If you spell them as freebsd, openbsd or netbsd, they get offended and your post is deleted by BSD forum NSA operative/BSD loser DutchDaemon. They always want you to spell it has FreeBSD not freebsd which is such a petty issue.

Open software has far better licensing arrangements than the latest GPL. Frankly those license protect the code better than GPL which pollutes every code base with nut case programmer that want to control every bodies contribution to the code base.

Wake up, Wake up, before you get screwed over after contributing to some GPL 3 code base.
Please kill yourself now. GPLv3 is what people need in today’s age of NSA/CIA spying, bondageware, slaveware, DRMs, corperate spyware, patent law suits and big-bother-ware to remain free. It is ever more important then ever that GPLv3 exists. Those who hate it are those who perpetrate the list of things mentioned above.

Because MIT’s permissive nature forfits it from any recognition. Basically, it isn’t MIT anymore since it merged with copyleft licensed software.

Your comments should just how much you need a lobotomy. BSD libc is even more crappy then glibc. It’s less portable, more insecure functions, more bloated and the functions have poorer performance and less functionality then their GNU counterparts.

The benchmarks have already proven that clang produces slower, bloated and low quality binaries then gcc. Compiling is unnoticeably faster but F.Y.I applications are compiled once and runned many times. So guess which is more important to have speed. The binary itself, something that BSD nuts like you could never understand due to your BSD dumbness or refuse to accept due to your BSD doublethink.

wizard69 can't, because he is just spewing his usual bs, there are two major things which GPLv3 changed versus GPLv2, one is that it prevented tivoization (which meant that a company like Tivo must allow end users to be able to build AND run modified versions of the GPL code Tivo shipped on the actual machines), and the second is that if you distribute GPLv3 licenced code then you are giving end users a patent grant to any patents you might hold in the code you are distributing.

Linus had one issue with GPLv3 and that was the tivoization clause.

As for this 'news item', you really have to be seriously retarded if you actually think this is from Stallman. It's am obvious troll post by someone with fake name of 'Liam Lindholm' who was also obviously the same person who created the imgur 'presentation' to begin with, and of course Michael knows this and he is posting this only because he knows that with all the trolls here on Phoronix it was bound to generate some much needed traffic during the slow xmas period.

Which brings me to why I came here today, which was to say Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a great time with family and friends!

Someone did respond...lulz - However, most people wouldn't consider him to be a kernel hacker. In fact, most would probably consider him to be a "theospammer", as his reply indicates; http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/li...2.2/04961.html - People (around here) may recognize this guy as "Paradox Uncreated". well, once you read his post, it becomes pretty obvious (if you've seen Paradox Uncreated anyway) because the guy always ends with "Peace Be With You."

this idiot usually goes on and on about god, low-jitter kernels and perfect frame rates in Doom (of all things!)...in most of his posts anyway. (the lkml post seems mostly about religious crap applied to software development...lulz - what a whack job).

Anyway, the whole Lignux/RMS re-hatch thing just seems fake/staged to me.

                  you are both stupid then.

Because linux was not chosen by the GNU system to become their kernel.

Linux distributions made use of PARTS of the gnu project - not even all of it.

With systemd, I'm pretty sure that in a foreseeable future you could build a desktop system while skipping most of the gnu tools like awk, grep, sed...

I'm not sure if Phoronix is in on the joke or just got trolled, but the whole thing is an obvious hoax. Well you might not get it if English isn't one of your first languages, or you're German... ;-)

Despite the fact that "Liam Oskar Lindholm" uses an LOL acronym is hasn't been heard of before, did anybody look at the presentations?
You just got to love page 8: "'Lignux' is to cryptic"

"Being right is better than being understood" and "Mystifying people is a valuable teaching tool"... Seriously? And if you haven't got the joke by then, what about the next page? I find it really funny, that out of all possible xinglu (xing-lu) combinations "RMS" choose the "fishy fistula"... especially as it is just an erroneous google translation, as fistula is actually 瘘管' or l?uguǎn.

depending on its pronunciation of "xinglu" it could have other, quite more common meanings:

                      to travel
                      traveller
                      rolling stone
                      criminal law
execution, as in the death penalty...

The latter should be reserved for people with an irony deficiency.

                      Enjoy your holidays!
