    Phoronix: Nouveau Graphics On Linux 3.15

    Following this week's Radeon DRM benchmarks on Linux 3.15, here are benchmarks of the Nouveau open-source NVIDIA Linux graphics driver when using the 3.15 Git kernel compared to stable Linux 3.14.

    Useless news article.

    4 pages of benchmarks and there was no difference in the results.
    Then you could just skip the 4 pages and just have one page where it says "no improvement".
    And in that case you could just have skipped the whole article, since there is no news.

    Basically "no news, nothing happened, nothing changed".

      Don't skip the article, I like to know if a new kernel will bring improvements, regressions or nothing.
      But I agree that he could have just put that in the title/first page.

          Do we know if they have even a clue about how to implement reclocking for fermi+ ? Because it's really frustrating to see so much little improvement in this crucial area.

              maybe never, without the help from nvidia the nouveaus maybe never put this working... i like to see some help from nvidia to put some powersave reclock working (we dont need some as good as nvidia-non free)

                Just curious: What exactly is holding back automatic core/memory reclocking support (except for NVIDIA of course :P)? The Nouveau team has done an excellent job when it comes to reverse engineering, does anyone know why reclocking in particular is so problematic?

                Also, how can end users help the developers? Is there any code/build we could actually test (without harming our hardware obviously), or is it still so far away? The feature matrix for Nouveau power management only says WIP (or MOSTLY if you don't have a Kepler GPU) ...

                  Because reclocking is a dangerous feature. Get it wrong, and you risk frying some cards.
                  So, even if they have it mostly working, it's still not enabled by default because they can't be sure it will work for every card.
                  It's also something that it's slightly different for every card, you have to modify both the clock and the voltage, every card has at least a different frequency for core/shaders/memory, there are many kinds of memory (ddr2, dd3, gddr5...) ecc...

                  As for helping, I guess the best way is to drop in #nouveau (over freenode) and ask if they need some test. But considering they blocked manual reclocking in recent-ish kernel (without recompiling the kernel) I'm not sure that they want/need testing from users.

                    I suspect agd5f would tell you that dpm was the hardest feature to get working on radeon as well, even with direct support from the hardware and Catalyst driver teams.
