just to clarify AUR stands as Arch Linux User Repository and is not related or supported officially by Arch Linux.

more plain, Arch don't support Unity or Mir at all and never did, there are just User Made packages for it in AUR.

      quote from faq https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php..._is_the_AUR.3F

"The AUR (Arch User Repository) is a place where the Arch Linux community can upload PKGBUILDs of applications, libraries, etc., and share them with the entire community. Fellow users can then vote for their favorites to be moved into the [community] repository to be shared with Arch Linux users in binary form."

"The Arch User Repository is where all PKGBUILDs that users submit are stored, and must be built manually with makepkg. When PKGBUILDs receive enough community interest and the support of a TU, they are moved into the [community] repository (maintained by the TUs), where the binary packages can be installed with pacman."

"A TU (Trusted User) is a person who is chosen to oversee AUR and the [community] repository. They are the ones who maintain popular PKGBUILDs in [community], and overall keep the AUR running."

Exactly right. Except, that most of the distros cannot really choose which they support, because they simply choose a desktop environment, and then go by whatever options that DE supports. You could argue that some distros pretty much run the development of certain DE's (eg. RHEL/Fedora = GNOME, Mint = Cinnamon/MATE), but that only applies to a small minority of distros. So first of all, there would need to be support for Mir in some DE that some distro is interested in providing.

So far, the only DE that is interested in offering support for Mir is Unity. Everyone else is going for Wayland. And since no other distro is offering Unity (because it's pretty much a Canonical-only solution, it's very hard if not impossible to even get running in a non-Ubuntu distro), no distro really has any reason to offer Mir at this point, unless they'd want to run a DE on top of XMir which, again, only an idiot would want to do.

There have been developers interested in running it on Arch for example (not as an official default but in AUR).
There are also Unity packages in AUR, but neither Unity or Mir are officially supported by Arch devs or TUs. No wonder, considering that you have to patch half of your userland libs to get Unity going, and Mir is shaping up to be the same sort of nightmare if these patches get rejected.

With that logic Wayland is distro specific for Rebecca Black Linux and that is just stupid.

Of course that was what I said (non official).
Rejecting this patches would probably make Mir distro-specific yes, that's why it's so
stupid too do so just because your mad at Canonical. Everyone would gain to atleast
be able to run Mir. Maybe Mir sometimes in the future adds a cool feature that Wayland
doesn't want because the API wouldn't be clean enough or something like that. Then
maybe some users would like to run Mir on another distro.

No one gets hurt if Mir is easily runnable on Fedora or something else.

And if none of the other distros had plans to change that, it would be correct. The point is that all the major distros (sans Ubuntu) have added Wayland into their plans. Mir hasn't been added to anyone's plans except Canonicals.
