With Catalyst people magically know they need to be restarting X if they don't want their battery to drain quickly? Hardly. They need to, prepare yourself for this one, inform themselves about it.

You're saying here that with "official" stuff there's no need for information. Which would mean the only things distros need wikis and forums for is the "non-official" stuff. That makes like total sense! Except it doesn't. Framing the need for information in terms of official vs. non-official makes absolutely no sense. But hey, you've lost all other arguments, so the Chewbacca defense is the only thing you have left.

Not magically - Catalyst show message to the user. Rest of your post now fail.

Exactly! They do not know magically, they need to inform themselves - by reading the message.

Looks like you not understand something.
AMD driver on PowerXpress in Windows - driver control panel show some messages about using hybrid graphics to user.
AMD driver on PowerXpress in Linux - driver control panel show some messages about using hybrid graphics to user.
nVidia driver on Optimus in Windows - driver control panel show some messages about using hybrid graphics to user.
nVidia driver on Optimus in Linux - X server fault after installation ("no screens found" is not much helpful error message, you know), no information about hybrid graphics in documentation, except "please consult with a system's manufacturer to determine whether that particular system is compatible" (since there is no Optimus laptops with preinstalled Linux this simply mean another "fuck off!")

Yes, I fully understand now: "official support" means... A message in the control panel. Wow, awesome!!

Nothing else matters - that AMD doesn't have a solution but a hack, that this hack defeats the main purpose of muxless tech, that it's actually more hassle than Bumblebee because of the constant need to restart X, that you were completely wrong about what Nvidia wants dma-buf for...

all that is irrelevant, all that matters is that AMD has a message in the control panel.

Exactly! When we are discussing how well NVidia and AMD developers support desktop Linux, all that matters is what NVidia and AMD developers have done, not what third-party developers have done. The fact that 3rd-party developers do a better job supporting optimus than NVidia developers do merely reinforces how bad of a job NVidia developers are doing.

AMD must really be raking in the big bucks with their strong devotion to the Linux desktop...
