Red Hat Developers Propose Wayland For Fedora 21

I would have thought they would make an offical update to Gnome 3.12 for Fedora 20 to enable easier testing before pushing out wayland as a default in Fedora 21.

Update: Ok they dont say it will be the default. "Wayland with GNOME 3.14 might be getting ready to take on the default Fedora 21 desktop" That line was misleading.

What I find funny about this is that, after all Canonical's hype about Mir being ready sooner (and standard in 13.10 ), Wayland could well end up on a major distro first.
Depends on the exact release date for 'Utopic' and whether Fedora avoid another round of schedule slips, but there won't be more than a few weeks in it either way.

Has Fedora ever shipped on time? There seems to be delays of weeks in each version.

What the NVIDIA's driver lacks to get Wayland support is a few Wayland-specific EGL extensions and a kernel modesetting interface, but it doesn't necessarily have to be *KMS* or even open source. AFAIK they already have one (or used to?) except there's no public interface for it to be used directly from the kernel, hence why you can't change the f**#!ing console resolution when using NVIDIA's blob.

nVidias kernel modesetting interface is/was called "PRIMER" if memory serves.
