it seems to be a good thing but at some point you will meet hardware dependencies / obstacles. When it comes to the very driver parts and the ability of HW and / or driver. Anyway good to see AMD here, that might coincide with their Mullins release which might be aimed also more at embedded market.

Very excited about Yocto

Yocto is sort of a platform to build your own distribution.
The target market is primarily the embedded market, which because of the combination of hardware uniqueness, specialized purpose and non-x86 architecture, is not well served by binary distributions.
There are lots of tools for building andriod or embedded images, and they tend to be painful to use and grossly out of date.
Every ARM vendor has their own kernel tree and fork of a build system, and these are often only minimally maintained. Embedded fragmentation is largely a result of these factors.
Yocto even gives you the ability to easily install an rpm or deb based package manager on your embedded system.
My team is evaluating Yocto and hoping to make the jump for a Freescale IMX based product.
