Well... He's a political activist with a propaganda bent that the government disagrees with, so there is some legitimacy to his actions, but admittedly I have to wonder how much the government really cares about him, given that it tolerates ecoterrorists like greenpeace just fine for instance, and all of the communist, socialist, and anti-government rhetoric that is so common in academic communities. Also I'm kinda surprised he spends as much time in the phoronix forum as he does

One of the things that interests me is the high performance machines used for video editing, and I maintain a number of machines used in my community. many of them with my own modified mix of Ubuntustudio and Mint on them. Also, I've been strong in pushing open source software over closed, untrusted solutions, and been trying to get more folks in my community to dump Windows, iOS, and even Android for verifiable FOSS systems. As such, I have really enjoyed working with the r600 open source video driver as it has steadily closed in on closed-source Catalyst. With Kdenlive's alpha version now using GPU compute via shader language directly, this stuff is about to become really important for video editing too!

Lastly, nobody is ONLY an activist with no life and no hobbies. If they are, they become so disconnected they lose touch with people and communities around them. If your life INCLUDES activism, no matter what else it also includes, it had better include concerns for security. Members of the Green Party trying to fly to GOP Convention protests have found themselves on no-fly lists during the Bu$h years. During that same time, people going to fucking movies in NYC were arrested for simply being on a block where others were protesting, and people wearing Kerry T-shirts to Bush events in 2004 were arrested.
