That's... the worst parts from each. The slowness of gstreamer with the hard-to-learn interface of mplayer.
If gstreamer is slow, it is not slow enough for me to have ever noticed. The interface of mplayer is awesome. It is not very discoverable, but not *hard* when you read the man page. I prefer CLI programs so mplayer-type video players are perfect for me.
