"sadly no VC-1 encoding" -- who cares about VC-1 anymore? It's as patent encumbered as h264, and technically worse.
It's not even as widely supported. When or why would someone ever want to use VC-1?

Because it's one of the mandated codecs on Bluray medias?

It's good to have a VC-1 decoder because of that (and vaapi already has it, as does vdpau), but why would you care about having an encoder? If you want to make Blu-ray compliant video just use x264, it even has a --bluray-compat switch to make sure the video is compliant.

I'm glad I'm not the only confused by the "sadly no VC-1 hardware encoding". H264 is really all you need for Blu-ray, and if you plan to make an actual Blu-ray, you won't be using the hardware encoder anyway- it's not been validated to put out Blu-ray-compliant H264.
