yeah, true! The compositor is completely fine and could be almost daily used. Not the shell.

But in this case the shell is a part of the compositor, just like Gnome3, so refering the shell as weston is not false.

weston-desktop-shell is a Weston plugin, (and a special client) It can easily be replaced by Hawaii or Orbital when running Weston with the needed command line arguments.

I didn't know that, thanks for informing me! weston has actually a better architecture than I thought, it's nice to see programmers caring about re-usable code.

Wayland supported it long time ago, they just don't bother about how to implement in the compositor (weston) before.

Anyway, weston serves as example for others wanting to implement an actual wayland compositor.

Anyway, I'm happy too to see a progress there, can't wait for DEs to be compatible!

It took 5 point releases to have working minimize buttons.

Nobody cares. Weston is just the reference implementation. It's not for production environments.

Also after maybe 5 versions Gnome will remove the minimize buttons and exit buttons completely because you'll have transparent windows and people never close apps in the future. There will be so much RAM we don't know how to waste it all.

That joke would have made more sense if you said iOS (or Metro, or Android) where closing apps is treated as a feature for advanced users only. OS X still has close buttons right there in the corner.
