Just a side note for those of you who blocked image of Michael from every article - you can remove that block, as it was just a placeholder of category image, which is now implemented.

Now, back on the talk about patents on dimming lights....

      Okay.

      This is incorrect.

Turning down brightness actually damages your eyes.

This is because almost all current LCDs use PWM controlled backlight.
Yes, less brightness - more flicker - more damage to eyes.

To test it, hold a camera on your monitor screen and start reducing the brightness.
      See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4tKREnOHlk
Benq is flicker free, LG is not.

Only recently DC-based backlight is making it into the market. Benq:FlickerFree, Samsung:some 2014 models, iiyama: -B1 revisions and newer models.
Anyway, only indepth review of backlight can find out if its PWM or flicker-free DC based.

Also I much more liked the previous draft:

This is super awesome! Why doesn't phoronix look like that?

I mean not necessarily the layout, but the title and sidebar.

I'm not sure it "damages" your eyes I have a Samsung 245B+ from 2008 and I see no flicker on it. If you see flicker, turn brightness down until you hit flicker. In any case, this is yet another example where the problem isn't the new design but the shitty screen.

Your monitor has CCFL backlight where PWM flicker isn't such problem like in case of LED backlight.

Following and other things are damaging eyes:
            1. high brightness
            2. blue light which is also part of white light
            3. PWM flicker
            4. FRC flicker

              Am I drunk?

The new font is ideal for mobile phones.

              NOT (iPhone 3GS)

It's known that there are display issues with the iPhones and Michael is looking into it.

Huh, it appears there aren't spoiler tags...

Can I request support for spoiler tags?

                    Suggestion for adjustments

For me, the font is too large to be comfortable to read on my desktop monitor.
The site is too wide (always at the max 1500px width) which causes the articles to have very long lines.
And finally I think it's a bit too light colored overall, it need's some darker colors to break things up a bit.

I've made some css adjustments to address those issues and to make the site fit more with the styling of the forums.

I quite like the result actually:

For those interested, the modified css is available here:

Those gradients really look outdated. (the ones on the right) Other than that it's nice, especially the top.
