I can vouch for compton, works really well, however if you can't manage to get compton then I'm afraid your only other option is to use KDE on fedora and enable opengl compositing.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I also have the choice to use Compiz which at least is in fedora repositories.
I can't wait for Wayland, it should solve all tearing issues and hopefully provide a super smooth user experience
