    Hah, now after years, Google comes back to GCJ methods. ART does the same thing GCJ does, compiles java to proper binaries.

    It would be rather nice to have them actually use GCJ, but it's pretty likely they instead did their own thing.

      Actually it's been started at least three times by different developers:

      There was an Ubuntu conference presentation of a guy that put together a runtime, with working dalvik and GUI libraries, he reported that it took less than a day.

      There was also this port of dalvik and another project called IcedRobot to run Android apps on the desktop using OpenJDK.

        Yes, unfortunately nobody seems to carry on with it, which is a shame. It would be awesome if linux had at least partial compatibility with native, html5, android and windows apps (even if through wine). No other OS can do that!

          There is a new software update for Sailfish. The changelog is big, lot's of bug fixes.
