Bethesda couldn't touch them even if they wanted to because it's technically just a mod. There's really nothing they can do about it.

So the codebase can be forked into OpenOblivion and OpenSkyrim, but you can't make a mod that lets you play from Morrowind to Skyrim.
One thing is blending the games together and another one is having a single engine able to run both. I say this because of the "fork the codebase into..." part. That's really not needed (although the engines are really different since Oblivion, AFAIK, so a different project for the GameBryo engine would probably be needed anyway).

Does it work with any mods like Morrowind Overhaul for improved graphics? http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.co...Detail&id=8987

Graphic mod, no, but won't be needed. Those improvement can go straight into the engine. overhauls and whatnot, yes.

They're different, but have lot of shared codebase. NetImmerse it's just older version of Gamebryo and Creation Engine actually based on Gamebryo.

Lot of resources/scripts have same syntax and share formats between games, but as I guess OpenMW just wasn't designed for multiple games and implementing Morrowind itself it's tough task already. Even in 0.28 it's still not playable.

Because The Elder Scrolls Online will serve that purpose

I think graphic mods for Morrowind include better textures, better 3D models and such, so it's not really about the engine only.

Skyrim's scripting language shares no similarities with earlier games.

It's obvious that you can use "better textures" and "better models" with OpenMW... If they are compatible with the original game engine, they are compatible with OpenMW...

Yes. Texture mods should work with OpenMW. In fact, they made OpenMW not have the cap on the number of mods that Morrowind had. So now you can install more than 256 mods at once. :-D
