  • Mouse Config Problem, FC6 with MX 3100

I would consider myself a linux noob, I know my way around a bit. Thus far with a bit of reading I've been able to accomplish what I need to.

I'm trying to enable the forward/back buttons in firefox on my mouse. I am running Fedora Core 6 and have the MX 3100 keyboard mouse combo. I searched around and everything I've found tells me to edit the mouse input section of xorg.conf. However when I look at the contents of the file I have no mouse input section. Just a keyboard section.

My mouse works fine as a 3 button but I'd like to be able to use the forward/back side buttons when browsing the web. Any help would be appreciated.

    Sorce,

    Welcome to the forums.

You should be able to follow those directions, and just add a mouse section (looks just like the keyboard section).

Thanks for the reply, I'll check out that lomoco when I get home. One more question, does it matter what I name the identifier and driver when I add that section? I've seen several that have different names on those.

The identifier doesn't matter as long as wherever you reference it, it's the same name.

Well I added a mouse config section to my xorg.config file and could no longer start up X11 so I removed the section and was able to start it back up. Tried the locomo thing and got it to install but can't figure out what I'm supposed to do from there.

Any help would be appreciated as it seems adding the mouse config to xorg.config manually causes x to not want to start. Like I said there is no mouse section already in the file and I can't find anything on how to get the 3100 combo to work. I've found things on the MX1000 but it has it's own usb receiver, mine is shared with the keyboard and mouse.

What did your mouse section look like? It may have crashed due to not being properly formatted.

I think lomoco --help will yield more information.

Well I got a config that doesn't stop x from starting up. Still haven't gotten the side mouse buttons working. I got the lomoco stuff working however from what I can tell it has nothing to do with the side buttons and only deals with the laser resolution and the scroll wheel.

I'm still messing with it although I had to take a break because I was getting too frustrated. I think a lot of the problems stem from the fact that the mouse and keyboard use the same receiver. At one point I had the scroll wheel controlling back and forward functions but couldn't scroll. I'll keep looking around and update this post if I find a config that works for the 3100 combo.
