Phoronix: NVIDIA Rolls Out The K40 12GB GDDR5 GPU

It's Supercomputing SC13 week and as such NVIDIA announced today the Tesla K40 as their latest ultra high-end GPU for HPC purposes. The Tesla K40 GPU accelerator is to compete with the FirePro S10000 that was announced by AMD last week. Both these GPUs designed for super-computing applications have 12GB of memory...

knowing how nvidia tends to use less memory than AMD in just about every one of their competing products, this is actually a pretty big deal.

What exactly do they mean by "for supercomputing purposes"? Is it a standard card that can be plugged into a regular PC or does it have a special interface?

        Benchmarks?

So,Michael, when will we see benchmarks on a rack full of these cards. A bake off between AMD and NVidia would be nice.

Yeah, these aren't something you would just throw into a desktop system. They can be placed into them, but they have no video out, they are strictly for CUDA workloads. Where you will see them is by the 4u rack case load in your Google and NSA data centers mining your data.

Try never, these are cards that are few thousand dollars each and are only for compute, not gaming.

Just like you wont see any of the the cards being used for cloud streaming gaming like the Radeon Sky series being benchmarked.

You'd be lucky to see this card benchmarked at a place like Tom's Hardware or Anandtech.

So it's basicly just quadro k6000 with lower clocks and no video outputs. And price tag is quite same 5499$.
