During Intel's quarterly earnings call this week it was warned that Broadwell, the successor to Haswell, has been delayed due to a manufacturing problem. But is this actually somewhat refreshing news to Linux users?..

Unless one's got an old CPU/Motherboard, upgrading to broadwell is not worth it, unless it's got hw acceleration for VP9/h265 which it probably doesn't.

I don't get how this benefits Linux users. Wouldn't Broadwell support be availabale whenever it's ready independent of when the chip is actually launched? Or maybe, the original launch date would have pushed development a little faster.

The prospect of Broadwell in Q1 2014 is rather surprising given that we don't even have Haswell in popular laptops like the Thinkpad T-series or Macbooks yet.
