Wow, judging from the first sentence, I guess Shumway might be open-source.

..says the man that types faster with one hand than most people do with two.

uses HTML5 technologies for efficiently rendering the SWF file format without native code support.
If it can allow decent-sized Flash on crappy old laptops without overloading and/or overheating them, I'll be impressed.

BTW, does anyone know if Lightspark has decent support for youtube yet (their site says "partially" supported).

          LOOOOL

Considering youtube already has html5 support this is really the last blocker

If it can do webcomics, I'll be happy

The main thing I still need flash for is http://mspaintadventures.com/
That, and if I ever feel like a nostalgia trip, and want to watch old flash animations. They were good fun.

              Speed and performance

I hope the "Shumway" is much faster than Adobe's plugin. Sure, Adobe's linux plugin works, but if you take the occasion to play a flash game or stream HD content online, the Adobe plugin really shows its weaknesses.

Yes, porn is the only thing that is keeping Flash alive.

Testing it now, at work so the porno test will have to wait. So far it perceptibly uses more resources than Flash, and doesn't work with Daily Motion. Youtube seemed to just use Flash straight away, so I think they've added a blacklist of sites maybe? I play The Settlers Online which works exactly the same in Linux as Windows afaik is up to 2.5GB RAM and constant 100% CPU, nothing materialises.

On someone's bright side, all Flash ads worked!

Well when they came out with their Javascript PDF reader it mostly worked, but not as well as standalone readers already available, and there was no reason whatsoever to use it. And Mozilla themselves would post messages saying, "this document may not have rendered correctly (even when it did), you should probably use a different PDF reader!" No kidding guys, so why have you changed my settings to use this one? I expect Shumway to be similar. At least there is a decent reason to create it, given the problems with Flash and Adobe's dropping support.

By the way, is the Firefox PDF reader good yet? Is there any reason at all to use it?
