  • Need help with laptop.

    Fellows, Ladies.

Seeking for Laptop. Basic laptop for my mom.
Something with 15 inch screen or more, small and has or can be Linux installed.
All i care about is size of screen and Linux compatibility.
She will be working nights, and needs laptop for entertainment only. Web pages, flash, little movies online, etc.

Here in the US, you can get plenty of Intel-based notebooks for a few hundred bucks that should meet your requirements. Quite a few Ivy Bridge models available at clearance sale prices. I don't know where you are so I can't speak as to what's available in your particular area.

First hand experience is most appreciated here. I could take advice from someone who already has Linux laptop.

Sorry, wasn't much verbose. I am based in Germany, but i got Visa card, so i should be able to pay anywhere from around world and i don't need it like today.

I want to spend no more than 370 euro, which is just about 410$ or so.

My main concern here is compatibility. I don't want to buy laptop which later on won't have wifi working or has UEFI that fails loading grub.

I want advice from other people who actually own this laptop. If you have to compile kernel with 3rd party drivers - not cool...

It should be 15 inch display or more for my older mom to see stuff on screen.
I dont care for it being big. I'd go for google chrome book, but HDD is just TOO small...
if it has wifi - would be super cool.

IT HAS TO BE LIGHT. Somewhat portable, so mom can carry it to work.

        Got it

        Lenovo G780

Seems not to have any issues with hardware.
Didn't test blue tooth but it did recognize it.
Wifi, web cam work out of box. Be careful, on Xubuntu there is bug with WIFI manager. Disconnects every 2 minutes, really annoying. Other distro didn't have such troubles.
        Big screen, high resolution. Cheap.
Only bad thing about it - it's too heavy.

        Almost perfect.
