Do you have better performance with open source drivers? I think Firefox is equally slow with proprietary and open source drivers for me.
I experience none of the Firefox (22.0) issues with L3.9.11, Cat13.6b and a Radeon HD 5400 or HD 7950.
Scrolling is fast and the menu reacts much faster.

Maybe you're hitting some kind of fallback...

Maybe they're taking the time to totally rewrite the Linux Catalyst driver? ;D

orly? do you have any more information on that? my comment was mostly tongue in cheek (obviously) but I had no idea that there was /actually/ some significant work being done.

The Catalyst 13.8 release is still on track for release later today/early tomorrow. Though I haven't heard about anything Linux specific just yet, so fingers crossed :-)

Delayed by two days or so.

The Linux release of Catalyst 13.8 Beta will happen within the next few hours.

From my initial testing of what I expect will be the same release as will be publically released shortly, OpenGL input lag remains problematic for certain ASICs.

                  kernel support?

Still 3.8 (or is that 3.9?)?
