    Kate is a programming editor with a whole bunch of sophisticated functionality needed by programmers. It's not that far behind Emacs/Vim and friends in terms of capabilities.

    Kwrite is a relatively simple editor, which makes it a better default choice for short edits. It's a bit like comparing Emacs to Nano.

    I think it has the functionality from katepart but lack all the dev tools and plugins kate has. It's probably better to look at their site for kwrite and kate http://kate-editor.org/about/ or try kate and compare.

    I've struggled to find a Gnome/Gtk tool that is this awesome... Geany just doesn't cut it...
