  • ATI performance 9600 fglrx

The performance of my ATI Radeon 9600 is really bad on urban terror (quake3 mod) using the newest flgrx ATI driver.. Although the graphics settings are switched to 640x480, low resolution textures etc, performance is unacceptably bad (25-40 fps, drops to slideshow when other players are visible).

    Ubuntu 7.10

    display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series
    OpenGL version string: 2.1.7276 Release

    glxgears
    12429 frames in 5.1 seconds = 2428.137 FPS
    12761 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2552.025 FPS
    11490 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2297.953 FPS
    11275 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2254.947 FPS

    Any ideas?

The game runs fine for me - but I"m using the latest driver.

    damentz@damentz-box:~$ glxgears
    16953 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3390.463 FPS
    17791 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3558.169 FPS

Oh, and thats fps with compiz fusion running :P

Try compiling the module or something too
    Code:
    m-a a-i -f fglrx-kernel-src
and make sure that its not a cpu bottleneck

Thanks very much for your response.

I'll try using a newer driver.

The pc is a bit on the antiquated side - CPU is pentium M 1.5 ghz 512 ram.

      radeon is only 64 ram.

Thing is, I recall playing enemy territory on it a couple of years back (!) on fglrx and it being playable on 800x600, which is same engine really; hence URT on 640x480 being that slow is "unacceptable".

Thanks for the tips- will try newer driver.

        I'm probably cpu bottlenecked
        AthlonMPX with dual 1.8GHz cpus
        fanless 9600 128MB

        13015 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2602.900 FPS
        12924 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2584.628 FPS
        13015 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2602.940 FPS

I had been running the radeon driver but using the AGP multiplier at anything but 1x locked up. Also gl would run really strange and portions of the screen would flash.
