    NEC = Renesas, just renamed. In my tests that usb 3.0 chipset was more compatible with intel boards than the VIA chipset, but only supports 2 and not 4 extra ports. Depending on the usb 3 storage hardware one or the other controller is faster or they are similar.

      I've used both versions and couldn't notice any big differences.
