  • Startlingly poor [nonexistent] moderation.

It would seem that idiotic anti-BSD trolling is back again (nothing new or surprising there).

More to the point, I reported this post almost 18 hours ago, and seemingly no-one's paid any attention to reported posts in that time.

I've experienced that before. It's frustrating, but I haven't moaned about it. It's just that in this case, the thing I was reporting is a huge, reasonably-detailed drawing of someone being double-penetrated...

Seriously, I'm very active on a lot of different forums. Some of them are very nearly dead; others such as this one are quite popular; some are much bigger. On none of them, ever, have I reported giant pornographic imagery and come back the next day to find it still there!

If the moderation team can't keep up, appoint some more mods! I'm sure plenty of us would be quite happy to spend a bit of our time looking through reported posts, if it allowed us to actually use this as a discussion forum and not a pornography site...I certainly don't see why I should bother with this site otherwise...

    Anyone?

*Long-time lurker & reader, only recently started posting on these boards. Looks like it might be a short stay .

    Oh, make that 24+ now.

I'm a fairly new poster here, so a mod had to check that post before it popped up. So not only do they have (presumably) an insane backlog of reports, they can read my moaning in my previous post, and still leave it...

Having had my own medium sized forum in the past, I can tell you moderation is quite a pain.

Michael should definitely get some more moderators to help deal with this problem.

Here's a thread from 08-27-2012 which is still alive, I've just reported it now, in case noone has done so earlier.

Here's the trick the spammers use to bypass moderation (links etc):

      1. Post without links or images
      2. Immediately edit post to add links / images
      -> no 'monitoring'
Here's my thread complaining about phoronix's anti-spam system:

Oh, so that's how these newly-created users manage to post links/images. I was wondering about that. Thanks

".I certainly don't see why I should bother with this site otherwise..."

why don't you fuck off then.

Maybe you if weren't such a stupid piece of shit you would understand that one of THE REASONS this forum is popular and has users coming in is because of the lack of moderation and you can say whatever you want.

also if they are gonna fix something how about the spam and the stupid ads... I would start with that then yes, ban unfunny trolls like FLHerne

No, the forum is popular because several interesting people like bridgman or x.org or open source driver developers are here posing and answering questions.

That's at least what I think.

Agreed, I'm glad that Mr./Ms. FLHerne created an account and posted here rather than disappearing in disgust. I can't help but wonder how many others haven't been so proactive.

Are you sure? I only can speak for myself but if you start a pro-active-pre-censorship like the one german-media-websites like "Spiegel.de , welt.de , fokus.de" have I drop leaning English for "freedom of speech" and I start to learn "Farsi" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farsi_%28disambiguation%29 to write on Iranian websites.

In other forums I have seen the method of just moving troll posts or thread-derailing posts into a new thread. This way you can still read and discuss it if you want and the threads stay on topic.

good idea but phoronix do already have off-tropic part and in the past people even start harassing if someone write his spam in the off-tropic part.

                    example: http://phoronix.com/forums/showthrea...John-F-Kennedy

now what do we learn from this?

its simple: humans only understand WAR they need it like a junkie needs heroin.
