    Do zaphod setups finally work with Glamor?

    Yes, the idea behind Glamor, to leverage OpenGL with a more or less generic 2d-acceleration architecture, sounds not too bad.
    OTOH, when I tried it some month ago on a HD 4850 it didn't support zaphod setups. But even on a single screen
    it performed rather badly compared to the available EXA acceleration.

    How difficult would it be to port the available EXA drivers to SI and newer ASICs?
    Or is it that GCN would require a complete rewrite?
    Could it be a reasonable task for a beginner?

      It would probably be less work to fix glamor to work with zaphod than to write EXA support for SI. You'd basically need to write SI EXA support from scratch. Additionally, SI only supports VM and the current accel code in xf86-video-ati relies on libdrm_radeon for memory management and command submission and libdrm_radeon doesn't support VM.
