If it's outside the merge window, it's outside the merge window. Hold your horses, it's three months; we'll live.

Linus has been known to pull in post-window code as long as theres no chance of it breaking existing code / hardware. Pretty sure early on he pulled in Haswell code that was post-merge window because obviously theres no way in hell it'll break hardware considering Haswell wasn't (and still isnt) out yet
All opinions are my own not those of my employer if you know who they are.

Too bad that this patch did not get in. It fixes pre NV50 hibernate for *a lot* of cards since the huge 3.7 rewrite. Which broke a lot of stuff btw...

In that case I'm sure Dave Airlie will have a good case in getting Linus to accept this patch after the fact. If this patch fixes major breakage brought about in 3.7 as well as being well tested to make sure it adds no new breakage then Linus might be inclined to accept it this late in the game.

Perhaps there's still time for that one. At least the main thing got in:

Small rectification: The v3.7 rewrite did not make these cards regress. It was the preparations for this rework, which includes the commit which broke these cards. This (also) happenned in v3.5 were it actually regressed.
