  • Best possible video settings for Quake 3/ioquake3 on Linux?

    Hey all,

My question is basically about what's the best video-card setup I could hope for these days running older code like ioquake3.

I'm working on an ioquake3 mod. ( https://cm-wiki.stanford.edu/wiki/Q3osc ) where I export in-game user xyz coordinates and projectile vectors over UDP as control data for an abstract musical environment, and I'm wondering what is the 2008 top-of-the-line best possible performance for the open-sourced quake 3 engine?

I'm currently working in Fedora 6 running the latest Planet CCRMA low latency kernel, on pretty fast AMD-based desktops using ATI Radeon X800 128MB card with open source drivers.

We're open for investing in better hardware but I'm wondering if there are any clear benchmarks as to how much better quake 3 performance gets with increased spec hardware?

    Thanks in advance!

    Rob
