  • 4 Monitors using Nvidia Quadro NVS 440

Today I got around to hooking up the 3rd and 4th monitors and was unsuccessful getting them to work. I believe the problem is with the BusID PCI (0a:00.0), I have tried PCI:10:0:0 in the xorg.conf with no success. Please see below.

    From Xorg.0.log
    Code:
(WW) NVIDIA: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:10:0:0) found
    lspci | grep -i vga
    Code:
09:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 440 (rev a2)
0a:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 440 (rev a2)

Looks like eth0 and the 2nd video head are on the same IRQ (16). Now I gotta fix it. Any ideas?

Ok, I'm really lost now. I removed and eth0 from the machine and still no go. I don't think it's an IRQ thing now. Any help?

Btw, here is my current xorg.conf (I commented out the 3rd and 4th monitors and only running the first 2 monitors)

I fixed it and feel like a fool now. I used "Nvidia Settings" to configure my screens and it worked the first time.

your discussion helped a lot - I am running Nvidia NVS 440 with Ubuntu 64bit

in your xorg.conf file you have a syntax error

          Section "Screen"
          # Identifier "Screen2"
          # Device "NVIDIA Quadro NVS 440 2"
          # Defaultdepth 24
          # Monitor "DELL 1908FP 2"
          # SubSection "Display"
          # Depth 24
          # Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600"
          !!!! issing EndSubSection
          #EndSection

once I added that it worked like a charm - thanks again

quake101, thomberg, what is your X version? and what nvidia driver version do you run?
I have a setup with three LCDs, but at one point upgraded to Xorg7.? and now running Xorg7.4 and I have problems with DFP-0 on the 2nd head of the NVS440. It sometimes shows garbage and when I move windows onto there, then it completely slows down my machine.
Not sure if my NVS440 is broken or if this is really a problem with the newer Xorg versions.
            thanks.
