From what cave are you? Linux is the most powerful and most advanced kernel/OS on this planet. BSD has lost long ago and it's simply meaningless OS now.

Most Advanced != Most widely developed FLOSS system.
Of course, it's not about quality... just about quantity, right? *sigh

Insane. What is it with people? We have Linux fanboys who just must troll in BSD subjects, and then we have BSD fanboys who just must troll in Linux subjects, and then we even have Windows fanboys here who really have no interest in either but who also come here trolling.

Yes, BSD does not have anything near the development Linux enjoys, that doesn't make Linux inherently 'better'. At the same time the slower BSD development is not indicative of better 'quality', it could just as likely be the obvious lack of developers.

As long as people are using BSD it's not irrelevant. When Linux first started out and probably a long time in it's existance I'm certain it had a lot less users than BSD have now. If the BSD's actually didn't fill a need then they would indeed be gone as no one would be using them, that is obviously not the case, not even remotely so.

Also the BSD's caters for a different open source philosophy than that of say FSF, and it's great we have this diversity no matter on which side of that fence you find yourself.

Unfortunately there are these zealots in each camp that can't accept the existance/success of the other which leads to these endlessly pointless flame wars, and instead of celebrating all these systems have in common they will make an issue out of any difference and proclaim this to be undisputable proof that _their_ choice is superior.

Yes, discussions regarding these differences are inevitable as they do define these systems to certain extents, and the pros/cons of these differences can actually be interesting basis for discussion, and when the stars align even enlightening. However for this to happen we really need to get rid of the goddamn trolling which derails any attempts at a reasonable discussion. This is a battle we are losing here at Phoronix, it's getting increasingly worse.

            PLEASE STOP TROLLING!

Actually, why don't you be honest.! Which had a better chance to become the "real" MacOSX ? - and u're right ! -It was NOT Linux, it was based on BSD, and NO, it wasn't just all about the BSD-License -lol.
And (Free)BSD, the original old Boss, is still around.

"....a better chance to become the next windows..." - wtf ?
You honestly want Linux to just become the next "Windows" ???!!! That's all we need, another clone of the "Unity Ballmer".
Comon', again - Nobody even wants Windows anymore, man.

Look, some like, or need to have the freedom to go to different Lakes, and rivers, (aka a different UNIX), and NOT just (stagnate)"distro-hop" in the same stench pond.

But hey, This is just a FreeBSD thread, and I'm sure there's lots of Linux threads elsewhere to roll around in.. so, (troll)Hop-along now.

                  ...delayed ?

Unfortunately, FreeBSD has been delayed, for years now, ever since Apple snapped up over half of the BSD-development team to build their MacOSX for them.

But Linux is the most advanced kernel/OS.
