    Hi!

I just recently (yesterday) received my new XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT 256MB card but the fan is extremely noisy.

Searching found that driver 169.07 introduced a bug for 8xxx cards which was corrected in the new 169.09.

But my card's fan with this new driver is at the same level as the previous driver.

    Using nvclock from CVS responds:

Error: Your card doesn't support fanspeed adjustments!

So the question is if my card _always_ will be in 100% fan speed and inherently noisy? I don't have Windows to test it there so please advise.

    Thanks.

Did you try latest nvclock with "-F auto" option?

Yes, nvclock from yesterday's CVS and 'nvclock -f -F auto' or replacing auto with numbers like 40 and the same result.

The fanspeed adjustment mechanism works differently on the 8600gt. I don't know which register it uses and for that reason it isn't supported yet.

If you need any help with this cards feel free to PMme.

On the other hand, maybe the new driver's fix doesn't work for this cards...

            Did you try 169.04 instead?

                Zalman rocks

if all else fails, one of these badass little numbers will give a quick death to any complaints of noisy video cards fans.

I experience the fan problem with 169.12. Meh.
