So .. Since Wayland can be run within Xorg, this wouldn't happen to mean it can be used without Wayland enabled drivers, right?

When you are running Wayland under Xorg, you do not need special drivers.

In fact, if you run Wayland under Xorg, it even works under Virtualbox.

So you should never develop something new as it always will be buggy in the beginning?

I remember people saying the same thing about Firefox (or Firebird as it was named back then) when it came...

good that linus didn't listened to people like you or we wouln't have linux at all.

and just to give you a glimpse of an answer to your question "why even bother...": becasue x is very blaoted, has a mix of outdated apis, is signed by a history of many many bad things. donig a clean start for a dispaly server is something that linux needed for a long long time! there are many things that need to be fixed and most will never be able to be fixed within X due to its architecture.

Cool. Are there significant disadvantages to doing so? Also, this means you use software rendering for compositing or big performance penalty(couldn't tell much from the live CD myself)?
Guess this means we can try Wayland even with proprietary drivers.
It'll be cool to run X apps in an X in a Wayland in an X too .. xD
