  • Could someone please reply whether it is possible to use AIGLX together with xorg-server-1.4 using these drivers? There is quite a few people waiting for the answer but their questions are being neglected.
    Cheers,

    Wojtek

The only thing I can tell you is that AIGLX is working fine with Catalyst 7-12 and X.org 7.3 (xorg-server-1.4) - that's what I'm currently running.

Catalyst 8-1 is not working for me - but that's not related to AIGLX as far as I can tell.

      • Hi friends, I just wanted to report my experience of some days ago. My mb died and so now I'm on p5ld2-x/1333 with e4500 CPU (before was p4g8x with p4 2400).
I had a radeon 9600 and I was forced to change because of the pci-express to a nvidia 7300 GT.
I finally can do everything with my linux box, I'm very happy and I hope you will have the same luck, a day or another, when ati driver will become accettable.
After my negative experience with ATI I think I will never come back to ATI.

            • using ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700/64MB

here is my experiance with 8.452 from je_fro's overlay (emerge was without any problem):

              ++ 580fps -> 620fps in fgl_fglxgears
++ vlc xv module is fine for me now and after all those troubles its fairly adequate (i noticed that vlc crashes no more when i set deinterlacing filter in settings as default option)

              [edit]
-- loosing acceleration during usage (after several restarts of applications that use fglrx, i have to reboot to get my preformance back) fgl_fglxgears is droping something like this after every Counter-Strike:Source restart 630fps -> 420fps -> 30fps. I think even restarting fgl_fglxgears makes these errors. well this happens to me with every driver after 8.40.4. looks like some problem with memory.

              otput from "dmesg | tail"
              Code:
[fglrx:firegl_free_mutex] *ERROR* mutex id 0x00000002 not found in mutex list
[fglrx:firegl_free_mutex] *ERROR* mutex id 0x00000004 not found in mutex list
[fglrx:firegl_free_mutex] *ERROR* mutex id 0x00000002 not found in mutex list
[fglrx:firegl_free_mutex] *ERROR* mutex id 0x00000002 not found in mutex list
              [/edit]

-- coruption when draging icons on desktop still present (but who cares if system is stabilized)
-- vlc still can't run in opengl module

i am not running compiz and not using suspend or hibernate, after all i emerged ati with acpi flag off now.

                • I posted a while ago saying that suspend/hibernate didn't work at all. Well, there is good news (I guess): suspend/hibernate does work, but only when Compiz is disabled. I want Compiz to work. It's one of two reason why I want to use the ATI drivers (the other being Xv support). Anybody know of why this would happen and a possible work around?
