That is the thing, Microsoft is not losing anything whatsoever on this deal. Personally I just think it is a Micorosft scheme to buy an established cell phone company for cheap so they can compete more directly with apple. Qt was just collateral damage.

Microsoft is DEATHLY AFRAID of cross-platform development environments where you REALLY CAN compare the same app on different platforms.

They will do WHATEVER THEY CAN to avoid ANY ability for Windows development skills to have any use on any other platform

They want it so that you can't share any code between your Windows port and any of your other ports. They want you to write your other ports from scratch, or even better, not bother.

When Microsoft says "it's all about the developers" what they are saying is that they want developers everywhere to be studing the arcana on MSDN and not looking anywhere else.

Google wrote Google Earth in Qt. Microsoft must HATE that companies like Google can write a Qt app and push it out to a range of platforms.

IBM invented "lock-in" in 1960s, for goodness sake! How people can deliberately ignore it after all these years is inconceivable.

you're aware that qt is used by hundreds and hundreds of companies for internal apps that never show up in any "marketplace"???

Check out the rates for Qt consultants, not bad for "the bottom"
