      So, this is only affecting those Intel products ?!?

          Perhaps the logic within the commit has a bug that ends up burning power due to bad side interactions so hopefully it'll get reworked

              This time it's not a vague BIOS issue but an Intel graphics driver problem indeed. And it is clear what causes it. So I think it'll be fixed or reverted in Ubuntu 12.10 at least.

                I've been holding back, staying on kernel 3.4, rather than upgrading to 3.5.3 in the opensuse12.1/tumbleweed repository

                any news on a fix? I had a look at commit logs but saw nothing obvious :-(
