Phoronix: GLAMOR 0.5 To Advance 2D Over OpenGL

With the Radeon driver now supporting GLAMOR acceleration -- it works for all hardware, but for Radeon HD 7000 series and newer its the only way of 2D HW acceleration -- this 2D-over-OpenGL architecture became more interesting...

May i ask where in the stack 2d graphics are still needed???

Don't all the 2d graphics libraries have backends for OpenGL or OpenVG which already has a G3D state tracker??

If glamor doesn't plan to work on wayland it's a dead story within at most 5 years, since X will be dead on Linux by then just like X is dead on the Mac (not really dead, a long deprecated and unwelcome compatibility).

Mesa has a sw limit of 8k on textures? Why?

I recall there's already hw out that does 16k.

this is a rather unique situation!

Intel payed devs develop glamour, but don't use it
amd payed devs actually use it!

Those 2 (amd and intel) are rivals right?
                It's nice to see.

I tested glamor with my hd4550 and the systray icon of pidgin was always blank :-(

Glamor on a Radeon HD 4850 felt rather slow compared to EXA acceleration.
Also, it does not support Zaphod mode yet.
